If you’re an experienced knitter, then perhaps you already have your favourite knitting patterns, or maybe you can knit based on size and feel, and don’t need a pattern. If you’re not that experienced, or don’t know what sort of things you can knit, here are some ideas.

2. Hats are always a popular choice, and again, they can be for your children, or for yourself. If you seem to spend a lot of time outside, perhaps in the garden, or watching your children play sport for their teams, or even just walking the dog, then you might be grateful for a hat.
3. You can never have too many pairs of gloves. Your children will be pleased that they always have a pair in their pocket no matter which coat they are wearing, and you might want different colours or styles of gloves, depending on what you’re doing.
4. Although jumpers and cardigans are an obvious choice for those who enjoy knitting, they are still popular, and can save you a fortune compared to buying them. Maybe you’ll want a big warm woolly jumper for when you’re in the garden or taking the dog for a walk, or want something stylish and elegant that you can keep in your bag in case it gets cold at work.
5. Every new parent is pleased to receive baby clothes, so why not see what you can knit for the new arrival in your family? Whether you knit a pair of mittens or booties, or a jumper, it’s sure to be appreciated.

7. Knitted soft baby toys are also a good idea, and will make a change from the other sorts of baby gifts that are often given. Although it may seem a bit soon to be thinking about toys, babies seem to grow really quickly.
8. Shawls can really make an outfit, and you might want something colourful to set off what you’re wearing. Perhaps you’ll be going to many special occasions in the near future, and want to look amazing and stay warm too!
