Knitting – A Wonderful and Rewarding Hobby

Knitting could be a really rewarding hobby. You don’t need a large amount of apparatus to start knitting ; anybody can begin with or without previous experience. For starters a couple needles, knitting yarn, and a DVD or book is more than enough for beginner. Knitting dates from the fourth century and since that point it has risen in popularity.

Nowadays knitting has hit a top in recognition; there are many people who enjoy this craft. Knitting isn’t a discriminating craft, folk from all origins and gender are happily taking part in this entrancing past-time. Some even make a professional career out of it.

So what exactly is knitting? It is the art of transforming yarn or similar material into a functional piece of fabric. Knitting is performed by many rows of stitches at a time, this is not the same as crochet which only makes use of one stitch. Fundamentally the stitches all rest on one of the needles, the other one draws loops over and under it to make new stitches.

Depending on what it’s going to be used for the needles can either be straight or circular. There are many types of yarn which may be used for knitting but plastics, wires and other strands of materials may also be used for the practice of this fascinating art.

There are nearly unlimited quantities of knitting patterns to choose from. You can create accessories, clothing, specialty items and so much more – the possibilities are only restrained by your imagination.

By simply surfing the internet you can find a lot of knitting patterns to choose from. If you’re a beginner you may need to start with something straightforward like a headscarf or a sock. as you’ve a pair of needles and yarn to work with the chances are practically endless!

The main thing is that you are being paid for your knitting skills, and once you are doing that, you have become what is now known as a “Knitterpreneur”. That may sound like you need to be a seasoned business-person with million-dollar turnovers, but there are many different levels of business.

There are of course knitting empires with million-dollar turnovers such as huge fashion-knit design companies, or big established pattern designers, or widely distributed knitting or crochet magazines or yarn manufacturers. These companies have worldwide distribution and teams of staff. It’s a huge vision, but one that has been proven to be successful, so in knitting, the sky really is the limit!

Many knitters’ vision is a little smaller than this, and there are plenty of small to medium knitting businesses. Some based at home, others in retail shops. They can often support one or two employees and create enough income for the owners to live their passion and be surrounded by the things and people they love. Then there are the small businesses that make a bit of extra income for the family; knitters whose goal is to make enough money to be able to stay at home and care for children, enough to keep their family comfortable, and let them keep on expressing their creative spirit.

There are even micro-businesses that allow a knitter to buy all the yarn they desire, and brings in enough money to let them knit for free!

No matter what the size or shape of the vision, you can actually make money knitting and really live what most knitters only dream of!

So how can you join them? It’s not as hard as you may think, the main ingredient for success in Knitting For Profit is to know what to sell and how to sell it, which I will cover in another article.
