What Can You Knit This Winter?

By Anita Johal

Are you having problems deciding what to knit this winter? One thing you can choose is the jumper dress…

The jumper dress is now coming back in style in a BIG way! If you go to all the top female clothes shops along your High Street you will find these dresses displayed everywhere.

The great thing about this particular dress is just how simple it is to actually wear. A lot of shapes generally tend to look good in jumper dresses. You can wear the dress over your leggings, jeans and even tights. If you wear tights with some lovely shoes, these are an ideal attire for working in the office. If you choose jeans and a pair of boots then that could suit you to go shopping.

The cowl neckline is a new trend and it seems to be extremely popular this winter. It gives you a soft look to the neckline and you can wear it either on its own or over a polo neck sweater. It is also very practical and keeps you warm around your neck.

There are many different colors you can choose from, but a really fashionable shade currently has to be the cobalt blue, this does suit most complexions, but it can be difficult if your skin tone is yellowish. In which case, there are many other colors to choose from…

From gentle pastels, to brights and even a good selection of neutrals you can choose from any number of colors and you can even knit many dresses in all sorts of colors to suit different occasions.

The best type of wool you can use is an extra fine Merino wool, which has an excellent finish with a smooth look. It is also machine washable and therefore a very practical choice. Unfortunately, you will not be able to tumble dry it. But that is ok, because if you lay it down flat to dry after it has been washed, when it has been dried you will not need to even iron it.

As Merino wool is a natural, breathable fibre, you will find that you will rarely get too hot and sweaty.

Merino wool is also one of the softest types of wool, and this is important because it means that you will not have to wear anything under your dress. It has also never been easier, or more comfortable to be fashionable.

10 Reasons You Should Be Using Knitting Patterns

By M James

Whether you’ve been knitting for years, or have recently decided to start knitting, you’ll find that knitting patterns are invaluable for helping you make sure that your creations are the right size and shape.

Here’s why else you should use them:

1. Knitting patterns make it easy to get started with knitting, or take it up again.

2. Patterns will help to improve your knitting. Whether you normally knit basic scarves and baby clothes, or complicated patterns for detailed jumpers and cardigans, you’ll find that using patterns will increase your skills and confidence and so you’ll enjoy knitting more.

3. Knitted jumpers, scarves, gloves and other clothes make excellent presents and surprise gifts for friends and family, and you can easily personalise your creations, or make the colour or design totally unique.

4. Patterns can also give you plenty of ideas and inspiration so that you can knit things you might never have thought of, or perhaps would be too difficult otherwise.

5. Because they are easy to follow, even for the novice, patterns can help you with things you struggle with. Perhaps there are certain stitches, or parts of a garment that you struggle with, so why not get a bit of extra help to make it right first time?

6. By using a pattern, you can get the exact jumper, blanket, scarf or whatever else you are knitting you want. Why not experiment with different sorts of wools, colours, or designs?

7. Although it’s seen as a pastime for the older generation, knitting isn’t just for older people. Many celebrities and younger people are taking up knitting, and are perhaps helped by older relatives. In an age where there are many mass produced clothes, it’s good to say that people are still trying to be different, and wear something unique that they made themselves.

8. You can also save money on your clothes by knitting them. Perhaps you’ll knit jumpers, hats gloves and scarves for the family this winter, or baby clothes for any new arrivals you know. Why spend a fortune on clothes that the children will soon outgrow, or that won’t last when you can make clothes that will be unique and long lasting.

9. Knitting is a great way to stay active for those who perhaps can’t exercise as much as they want to. Why not keep your hands and head busy and make some beautiful creations for yourself, your family and your friends too.

10. Above all, knitting is fun, and the smile on people’s faces as you give them something you’ve made for them is priceless. It’s also a great way to make new friends too, as there is a good online knitting community and many resources available.

If you’re keen to start knitting, or to pick up your needles again, perhaps now is the time for you to get some new knitting patterns.
